FAQ’s
- What operating systems does Abrica run on?
Abrica installs and runs on Windows 2000/XP/2003. You can also use Abrica in a Unix/Linux or AS/400 environment by installing Abrica on a Windows PC and then setting up lpd/lpr drivers (that's tech-speak for the software that makes Abrica appear as a TCP/IP printer that the host system can "see").
- Does Abrica work with multiple users?
Yes. Abrica "printers" can be used by a workgroup. As is true with any workgroup printer, the Abrica printer drivers will need to be installed at every workstation that will transmit or receive documents using Abrica. When initially installing Abrica, the first "printer" should be set up on a file server that all the other workstations can see on the network. This is because Abrica stores copies of all the sent and received transmissions in a managed file store -- and all users will need to be able to access this shared file folder.
- How does Abrica's security work?
Abrica's employs "security in depth". This means that Abrica is secured at the client program, as well as the network server, and the Internet service. At the client, Abrica enforces rights and privileges based on whether the logged in user is an Abrica Administrator -- and whether the user has been permitted access to a particular printer. At the network server (the central Abrica data store), the rights and privileges are governed by the database and file system security set up by the system administrator.
The security of the Abrica Network Service is based on strong, cryptographic authentication of each Abrica installation and bank-strength encryption of all traffic that is sent and received by Abrica subscribers. Obvious Solutions' patent-pending security architecture is a hybrid of asymmetric and symmetric cryptography that provides PKI-strength security without the complexity and expense of PKI.
